The Joy and Privilege of Working with a True High-Performing Team. Why Most Teams Only Claim the Title – and Why So Few Ever Get There.

This week, I had the privilege of working on the North Sea coast two days in idyllic surroundings, with a Leadership Team carrying major business responsibility. A team that reminded me why I love this work. Mature, brilliant personalities. A seasoned leader at the helm - with immense knowledge, wisdom, and experience. And still leading with something even more important: deep care for people and for the whole organization.

We worked with two of my favorite tools:

  • 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 - a profound map of personality structures, revealing unconscious patterns and the shadow we often prefer to ignore. True self-awareness only begins when we dare to look there.
  • 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 - mapping Belonging, Resilience, Involvement, Trust, and Empowerment. It provides a sharp mirror of where a team really stands - beyond the self-flattering illusion of “we’re doing great.”

The conversations were deep, the debates intense yet respectful. Substantial results emerged - and while I guided the process, it was with a very light and gentle hand. Because this team has an exceptional capacity for self-regulation, steering itself with wisdom, openness, and curiosity. That’s what makes a High-Performing Team: it becomes 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴.

The contrast is striking: while many teams like to 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮 they are High-Performing, the reality is different. Most never move beyond the surface. They stay in comfort zones, avoid their blind spots, and never face the uncomfortable reality of their own limitations. Without that courage, true High-Performance is out of reach.
